An AAPT-owned Listserv is available. You are encouraged to explore these pages and if you're interested in what you see and want to find out more, print a membership application and become a member.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Topic: Teaching Modern Philosophy Survey Courses.
Courses in Modern Philosophy are an essential feature of many philosophy degree programs. However, they confront philosophy teachers with a number of challenges. Should one end a Modern Philosophy survey course with Kant or with Hume? If Kant is the endpoint, how does one discuss his philosophy in a meaningful way in one or two weeks? How does one avoid the impression that Modern Philosophy is an all male affair? Can one include Spinozabs bEthicsb without creating the impression that his bEthicsb is mere metaphysics? What is the value of teaching survey courses? Are they really an essential part of a philosophy education? How can one create meaningful paper assignments and tests?
The AAPT session will give faculty members who have taught modern philosophy survey courses for several years the chance to share tips, challenges, and strategies and aims to provide help for those who expect to be teaching modern philosophy for the first time.
Submissions are encouraged from teachers at two-year as well as four-year colleges.
Proposals should be no more than one page long and they should be sent to: nrauhut@coastal.edu no later than June 7 2009.
We also announce CFPs and Upcoming Events that are not sponsored by the AAPT but likely to be of interest to people interested in issues related to the teaching of philosophy.
